Increasing uptake in the flu and Covid-19 vaccine

Wirral CCG Boost Campaign Ideas 05

Change has happened fast, and if improving vaccine uptake is a priority, what will you do differently this year?

As local public health teams gear up to launch winter health campaigns, we know efforts to promote population health are now more important than ever.

With the NHS continuing to face backlogs caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, reducing preventable diseases like influenza this winter and protecting vulnerable cohorts from Covid-19 is vital to ensure our health services can respond to demand and better manage winter pressures.

At ICE, our researchers discover what drives and restricts people’s behaviour when it comes to making choices about their health.

In Winter 2021, ICE partnered with Wirral CCG to pilot a groundbreaking winter vaccination social media campaign that used population health data to convey behaviourally designed public health messages directly to those who would benefit most from vaccination.

Team ICE applied behavioural economics and human-centred insights, working in partnership with Wirral CCG and Cerner, to design a behavioural marketing campaign that reached more than 1m people, nudged 4,488 people to the vaccination booking site and contributed a cost saving of over £25,000* to the NHS.

The messages we create are designed to work with the brains limbic system and tap into salient thoughts and emotions that drives behaviour and decision-making.

Our Yellow Paper explains 4 key behavioural principles that can be applied to public health messages, across multiple channels, to help you encourage uptake of the flu vaccine.

We can support you too. We have developed a social media toolkit using behavioural messages and graphics based on the insight gained from this campaign. We have a limited number to give away FREE.

The toolkit is easy to use and ready to simply cut, paste and share the content on your social networks. To request a copy for your organisation or community, contact Zoe on the details below.
