Community Engagement & Activation in Cranbrook - Healthy New Town

Challenge

Cranbrook is a Healthy New Town, one of many sites that are being developed under an NHS initiative to deliver better services and promote population health and wellbeing. To do this effectively, requires a joined-up approach by a range of partners and stakeholders working in areas of housing, education and health and social care to come together to co-design what needs to happen to meet the needs of the local people in Cranbrook.

Solution

ICE Creates facilitated a series of engagement sessions in local community venues to bring members of the community and key partners and stakeholders together, to connect and explore what Cranbook is like now, the future vision for Cranbook and to plan what needs to happen next to achieve the shared vision. 

 

Approach

ICE used clean language and laddering techniques to explore people’s beliefs, values, lived experiences and emotions that drive behaviour and decision-making - techniques that are designed to bypass our human tendency to rationalise thoughts and behaviours. From there, ICE planning tools were used to encourage commitment to action and co-design actionable next steps.

 

This rich insight was gathered using live graphic facilitation, a technique designed to capture rich visual metaphors and themes live, as they emerge, helping engage the audience and shape discussions. 

 

Together, our approach enabled the co-creation of a shared visual narrative that explains ‘why’people in Cranbrook are motivated to come together and what needs to happen next.
